Adult Summer Camp
I really, truly believe that 2023 is the year of healing our inner child. For this reason I have effectionaltely named this adventure with you: Adult Summer Camp: Weekend Upholstery Retreat at The Newton of Ypsilanti. This trip is for all of you furniture nerds interested in the world of furniture resale, restoration and design but don’t know where to start, or how to take off from where you are.
I’ve been in the furniture business for several years, starting out with a hobby of flipping and selling furniture on Facebook. What started as a way to make some extra cash quickly turned into a full-time career for me and my husband.
After struggling to find skilled professionals to hire to keep up with the demand, we closed our doors last year. But instead of giving up on the furniture industry, I decided to teach as many people as possible about upholstery as I could in what little free time I had.
As a self-taught upholsterer, I understand the challenges of breaking into the industry without access to formal education, or the legitimacy of a brick and mortar establishment. That’s why I want to use opportunities like the Adult Summer Camp: Weekend Upholstery Retreat and my in-person workshops to expose more people to the furniture resale and restoration industry, and show them exactly how untapped it currently is.
Through my classes, I share my expertise on pacing yourself when starting out, setting boundaries, documenting and sharing your work and milestones, and marketing your products or finding clients. I’m passionate about helping others succeed in the furniture business, and I truly believe that everyone can find success in the industry with the right skills, mindset, and community.
