- I have an upholstery questions about spring chairs: can you replace traditional springs in a chair seat with zig zag springs? I do not know who to ask and I cannot seem to find the answer on the internet.

- I am working on these chairs and wondering if I should replace the springs, I removed all the old fabric and batting, only thing left are the springs. Plan on replacing the bottom webbing to start then attempt the fabric recover.

Do I need a special sewing machine for upholstery or can I start with my own machine? Can I get one used.
You don’t need anything super special, but domestic machines made with plastic parts can not hold up long with upholstery fabrics and threads. I always recommend finding an old all-metal electric machine. If you can find a walking foot, bonus! It doesn’t have to be industrial though, and you can find a lot of these antique machines free or super cheap on marketplace.
